6 things to think about when buying your first roommate
Growing houseplants is a wonderful hobby, but it also has its pitfalls. We have listed a few tips for you to look out for when buying the first greenery for your home.
- Place
Choosing a suitable place for a plant is sometimes a nice puzzle. Do not put the dressing table in a place where you often walk, you could accidentally damage it every time. For example, if you bought a climbing plant, choose a place where it will have room to climb. Shelves or sides of cupboards are ideal.
- Light
Light is very important for plants. If you buy a light-loving plant, it will logically not be very happy in a dark corner. If you don't know the plant, find out how much light it needs in order for it to like it and grow beautifully.
- Time
Of course, part of the care of houseplants is watering. If you are an avid traveler, choose those that last longer without water, such as Aloe Vera or Mother-in-law's tongue . But it does not mean that they can survive completely without water.
If you would still like to fill your apartment with indoor plants, arrange with your friends to water your plants while you are away.
- Demandingness of the plant
If you are just at the beginning of your growing journey, do not immediately choose plants that need more care. Choose undemanding courses that will help you acquire basic knowledge.
The undemanding include, for example: Mother-in- law's tongue , Zamioculcas , Sphlhavnice .
- Price
It is unnecessary for a beginner to buy an expensive plant. Start with the simpler and cheaper options first. Or try asking your friends for cuttings, where it costs you nothing to "kill" the plant, on the contrary, you will rather gain experience.

- Poisonous plants
Do you have a child or pets at home? Most interesting houseplants, whether in shape or color, are poisonous. Before you buy a plant, it's a good idea to find out about its toxicity. If necessary, you can move the plant to a place where a child or pet cannot reach.
Plants that are not poisonous, for example: Oxalis , Maranta , Calathea .
