How to sweep with fringes?
With the arrival of autumn and winter, thrips begin to multiply, because we start to heat up our homes and there is no more humidity at home, and thrips love dryness.
How do I recognize thrips?
Thrips ( Thysanoptera ) are small pests that can cause serious damage to plants, especially their leaves and flowers. They have a thin, long body and distinctive wings that are slender and often with fine fringes on the edges. Their suction damages plant tissues, which can lead to deformations of leaves, gray or rusty to brown spots and overall weakening of the plant.
You can find them on the leaves of plants in the form of tiny moving larvae. Usually only a few individuals are found together on the leaves. If you ignore these larvae, they can easily multiply for you, and the larvae will not be just a few, but easily dozens. If you do not intervene in time, the thrips will mature, appearing on the plants as black adults with wings, thanks to which they can easily reach other plants.
If you regularly check your plants, you will notice them by the sucked-in leaves and yellowing leaves, which may later even start to turn brown.
How to get rid of them?
As soon as you find out that thrips have attacked your plant, put it aside from the others - in quarantine .
Our most effective way to kill thrips is to wash the plant thoroughly with soapy water (best to use a dish sponge) and then shower with clean water. If you have only discovered a few of them on the leaves, only this procedure is sufficient. It is also advisable to wash the flowerpot , or check the substrate, throw away the top layer of the substrate, because the larvae like to settle here.
Are you dealing with a stronger attack?
Cut off the most affected leaves, the plant will be relieved and healthy leaves will soon grow.
Use a synthetic spray, preferably Careo, both on the plants and in the substrate. You can also stick blue or yellow sticky tapes into the flower pot, thrips love this color and will stick to them.
If you would like to use only a natural insecticide, we recommend using neem oil, apply it to the plants by spraying, or you can use insecticidal soaps .
